Humanoid Robot: Chinese robotics company Unitree has surprised everyone by showing the capability of its humanoid robot in extremely cold weather. The company tested its G1 humanoid robot at a place where the temperature dropped to minus 47.4 degrees Celsius. Despite this, the robot successfully crossed the snow covered field.
More than 1.3 lakh steps in the snowy field

−47.4°C, 130,000 steps, 89.75°E, 47.21°N… On the extremely cold snowfields of Altay, the birthplace of human skiing, Unitree’s humanoid robot G1 left behind a unique set of marks. pic.twitter.com/1ratz6ZKT1— Unitree (@UnitreeRobotics) February 2, 2026
This unique test was conducted in the Altay region of Xinjiang province of China. According to the report of government broadcaster CCTV, the G1 robot completed more than 1 lakh 30 thousand steps while walking in the snowy area. The special thing was that while moving, the robot also prepared the symbol of Winter Olympics on the ground, whose length was about 186 meters and width was about 100 meters.
Robot running on its own for the first time in extreme cold
It has been reported in the report that this is the first time that a humanoid robot has been seen walking on its own in such low temperature conditions. China’s Beidou satellite navigation system played an important role in meeting this challenge, which provided accurate location information down to the centimeter level. Along with this, the robot’s adaptive path planning technology helped it maintain balance on the icy road.
Special technical features of G1 robot
Unitree’s G1 robot was launched in May 2024. Its weight is about 35 kilograms and its height is about 127 centimeters. It has 23 to 43 joint motors whose maximum torque goes up to 120 Nm.
The company’s own developed UnifoLM (Robot Unified Large Model) has been provided in the robot and it also supports Reinforcement Learning. Its battery is capable of working continuously for about 2 hours. Apart from this, 3D LiDAR and depth cameras are also present in it.
glimpse of the future
This successful test has made it clear that humanoid robots are no longer limited to just labs or factories. Their reliability is increasing even in extremely harsh weather, which can bring big changes in areas like research, rescue and exploration in future.
