Hyderabad Fire: A massive fire broke out in Nilgiri Block in Ameerpet, Hyderabad! Students trapped on the fourth floor, how was the rescue done?

A sudden fire broke out in the Nilgiri Block building near Maithrivanam in Ameerpet, Hyderabad around 12 noon on Friday, due to which dense smoke filled the building and created panic among the people. According to eyewitnesses, the fire was seen rising from the upper floors and within a few minutes the smoke spread throughout the complex. Many students present in a coaching institute running on the fourth floor got trapped inside, to rescue them, police and fire department teams reached the spot and started the rescue operation through the balcony.

It was seen that people were rapidly coming down the stairs from the building, while some students were standing at the windows and balconies, waiting for help. Several fire brigade vehicles arrived and firefighters reached the fourth floor with the help of a stepped hydraulic platform. Police temporarily closed the surrounding roads and diverted traffic so that the rescue work was not hampered. According to initial information, the fire may have occurred due to short circuit, however official confirmation will come only after investigation.

Complaint of difficulty in breathing

During the rescue operation, some students complained of slight difficulty in breathing, who were taken to the nearest hospital as a precautionary measure. Fire department officials said that it took about an hour to control the fire and major loss of life was avoided. Other offices and shops in the building were also evacuated.

Fire incidents in Hyderabad in recent months

Incidents of fire in Hyderabad in recent months have raised questions on the security arrangements. In January 2026, many shops were destroyed in a fire in a commercial building near Charminar. Similarly, in January, 4 people died in a fire in a furniture shop in Nampally. Even after these incidents, there is concern about following fire safety regulations.

Continuously growing commercial buildings in the city

The Nilgiri Block incident once again shows how important emergency exits and fire safety equipment are in crowded commercial areas. At present, officials are investigating the exact cause of the fire and safety certificates and records of fire fighting measures have been sought from the building management. This incident is being seen as a warning amid the ever increasing commercial buildings in the city.
