Hyderabad Flyover: Impact of ABP News report visible! Seeing lives being played with, Hyderabad GHMC took action on this matter

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has taken immediate action after serious negligence in safety standards was exposed on the steel flyover being built in Santosh Nagar, Hyderabad. After the report of ABP News, GHMC has provided helmets, safety harnesses and other safety equipment to all the workers of the construction agency. Safety Engineer Sahdev Ratnakar gave a clear assurance that complete arrangements will be made for the safety of both the workers and the common people passing below and penalty will be imposed on the negligent agency.

Ratnakar, while replying to ABP News, said that the staging work is done every day only after the traffic stops at night, but yesterday due to less traffic during the day, this work was done without informing the concerned supervisor. He said, ‘We have given strict instructions to the safety engineer. Now every work will be closely monitored and necessary precautions will be taken. He also added that the agency has been warned for security lapses and a penalty will also be issued against it soon.

Shocking revelation in the report

Earlier in the report, it was said that the heavy iron girder and steel was tied at the same height only with thin ropes. There was no safety net installed, helmets and harnesses were not being used and there were not even warning boards on the road. Local resident Ramu had said that children go to school, women go to office, what would happen if something falls from above. Now this action of GHMC has brought some relief to the people of the area. This 2.5 km long Chanchalguda-Santosh Nagar flyover is an ambitious project of GHMC. After a delay of four years, the target has now been set to be completed by June 2026. Upon completion, there will be a significant reduction in traffic jams in Malakpet, Saidabad and Santosh Nagar. But at present, traffic diversion is going on during the construction.

workers got equipment

Safety experts say that protective nets, barricades and traffic management are mandatory while doing steel work at height. GHMC has now promised to ensure strict adherence to all these rules. Local people have demanded that there should be regular inspection of the construction site and no negligence should be repeated. This stand of GHMC is a clear message that public safety will be given priority. Now it has to be seen how far these promises are implemented and whether this construction site of Santosh Nagar really becomes safe or not. At present, the workers have received equipment and surveillance has been increased.
