When you buy meat from the market thinking it is fresh and clean, do you realize that it may actually be rotten meat that is several days old and has been soaked in dirty water to hide the smell? What has been revealed by the police and the food adulteration team of GHMC in Mangalhat area of Hyderabad is going to shock every common citizen.
On March 10, 2026, a joint team of Mangalhat Police Station, Task Force Golconda Zone and GHMC officials raided a shop located at Chishti Chaman Dargah, Mangalhat. Here Mohammad Afroz alias Afroz, who was running a business under the name of A to Z Sheep and Goat Offals, was arrested. About 300 kg of rotten goat and sheep offal i.e. organs like intestines, liver, etc. were seized from the spot, which were completely unfit for consumption.
Preparation for disposal of seized meat
Investigation revealed that the accused used to buy meat and offal in bulk from Karnataka, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir at very cheap prices. Then it was kept in deep freezer and plastic tubs filled with dirty water for a long time so that the speed of decomposition slows down and the smell is suppressed. After this, this poisonous meat was sold to the customers as fresh and clean. This is not just cheating, but playing with people’s lives. The seized meat was taken by GHMC officials for destruction as per prescribed procedure. A case has been registered against the accused under crime number 102/2026 under sections 125, 271 and 318 (2) of BNS.
Police appealed to the people
Police have appealed to the people not to buy meat or food items from any unauthorized or suspicious shop. If you get information about any such activity, immediately inform the police or concerned authorities. The question is how many more such Afros are still serving rotten meat in the streets of the city and we are unknowingly feeding the plate of disease to our families.
