Telangana government took a big decision on 10 February 2026. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), which administers the city of Hyderabad, has now been divided into three separate municipal corporations. This step has been taken for better functioning and faster development of the city. Since the decision, it has been divided into three separate municipal corporations—’Cyberabad Municipal Corporation’, ‘Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation’ and ‘Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’. Senior IAS officer Jayesh Ranjan has been appointed Special Officer to oversee these three corporations.
Under this major decision, the areas of Serilingampally, Kukatpally and Qutbullapur, which have developed as IT hubs, have been merged into ‘Cyberabad Municipal Corporation’, the command of which has been handed over to Commissioner G Srijana. At the same time, ‘Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation’ has been formed covering the suburban areas of Malkajgiri, Uppal and LB Nagar, whose commissioner will be T Vinay Krishna Reddy. The new ‘Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’, which handles the old city and historical areas, will now control Shamshabad, Rajendranagar, Charminar, Golconda, Khairatabad and Secunderabad zones, which will be headed by RV Karnan.
News spread like wildfire on social media platforms
This news is spreading like wildfire on social media platforms like @TeluguScribe, @tv9 and @TelanganaToday. As soon as the officials issued this order, people welcomed it. In fact, this demand was being raised for a long time that due to the vast geographical area and increasing population, it is becoming difficult to manage the city with a single corporation. This step has been taken in view of the increasing expansion and unplanned development of the city in the last several years. This division will not only change the structure of the city, but will also speed up delivery of services to the common man.
Hyderabad has now entered a new era
With this historic decision, Hyderabad has now entered a new phase. Under the supervision of Special Officer Jayesh Ranjan, it will be ensured that the process of partition does not put any burden on the common citizens and there is no hindrance in the development works. Now it remains to be seen how successfully the three new corporations fulfill this responsibility.
