Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy consolidated his position at the top of the latest ICC men’s T20 International bowling rankings released on Wednesday as he achieved career-best rating points after a stellar performance in the ongoing series against South Africa.
Thirty-four-year-old Chakraborty took three consecutive two-wicket hauls in the five-match home series, taking his rating points to 818, which is his best rating.
The right-arm bowler took six wickets in the first three matches of the series, which also included economical bowling by taking two wickets for 11 runs in four overs in the last match in Dharamshala. India won the match held in Dharamshala by seven wickets.
Chakraborty has a huge lead of 119 points over second placed New Zealand fast bowler Jacob Duffy (699). He has also reached the top 10 in terms of best ever rating for T20 International bowlers.
Left arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has also moved up four places to 16th position on the basis of his brilliant performance in the third match against South Africa and was selected as the best player of the match.
For South Africa, Marco Jansen (up 14 places to 25th), Lungi Ngidi (up 11 places to 44th) and Otniel Baartman also improved. Bartman dropped out of the top 100 to 68th place.
India now has two players in the top five rankings among T20 International batsmen. Tilak Verma has climbed two places and reached the fourth position.
Abhishek Sharma has maintained his hold on the top. The rankings of South Africa’s Aiden Markram (up eight places to 29th) and Quinton de Kock (up 14 places to 43rd) have improved.
Despite not playing any international match last week, Pakistan’s Saim Ayub continues to top the rankings for T20 international all-rounders. India’s Shivam Dubey has moved up two places to 16th position.
