‘Homebound’ director Neeraj Ghaywan, actor Ishaan Khattar and Vishal Jethwa participated in the evening session of ABP Network’s summit ‘Ideas of India 2026’. In the session of these three, real stories are being talked about.
Why wrote this story?
During this summit, when Neeraj Ghaywan, director of the film ‘Homebound’, was asked about the story of the film, he said, ‘Somehow villages are disappearing from our films, especially from cinema. I’m seeing something that shouldn’t be there. Someone had given me a story to read, when I read that story I was very upset, it shook me from inside. But when I read it 2-3 times, I felt that it could be made on a larger scale. Through this it can be told what situation our youth are going through at this time. This was an attempt to know their experience, because we need to know how they work.
Why does Neeraj work only on short stories?
Referring to Neeraj’s other films, when he was asked why he always makes such films, he said, ‘Look, it is a matter of perspective, maybe I stand straight on the stage but maybe people believe that I stand sideways. I am a caste, lesbian woman, I myself am from a Dalit background, so perhaps I understand it more. I only talk about 25% of the people. The entire credit for this goes to one of our Masaan producers. People from all over the world were connecting with him through friendship through this film.
