IEW 2026: Big steps towards self-reliance in energy sector, many historic deals between big companies

In the closing stages of India Energy Week (IEW) 2026, India’s leading energy companies signed several important agreements (MoUs) with global and domestic giants. These agreements will not only strengthen India’s energy security, but will also prove to be a game-changer in the field of future clean fuel and sustainable technology. Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas in the Government of India, has shared important information.

IndianOil and ENGIE: Big partnership in Asia-Pacific gas market

He said that Indian Oil (IOCL) and French company ENGIE have joined hands for strategic cooperation in the LNG and gas market. Its objective is that this partnership will explore new opportunities for LNG and natural gas trading in the Asia-Pacific region. Its significance is that this will strengthen Indian Oil’s hold in the entire gas value chain.

Tripartite alliance in the LNG sector (OIL, NRL and TotalEnergies)

Apart from these, a tripartite agreement has been signed between Oil India Limited (OIL), Numaligarh Refinery (NRL) and global energy giant TotalEnergies. Its objective is that the three companies will together share knowledge of the LNG market and work on long-term options for LNG sourcing and regasification.

HPCL and Thermax: Indigenous development of new energy technologies

Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL) and Thermax Limited have signed an agreement for joint research in the field of clean energy. Its technical focus is that both the companies will together commercialize emerging technologies such as HP AEM electrolyzers, carbon capture (CO2 capture) solutions and bio-pyrolysis oil processing.

BPCL’s Green Logistics Initiative: LNG to replace diesel in trucks

Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) has entered into a unique agreement with logistics giants DHL and Delhivery. Under its clean fuel transition, the diesel trucks (fleets) of these companies will be converted to LNG.

As part of its network development, BPCL will set up LNG stations at strategic locations so that LNG can become a practical and economical fuel for heavy vehicles.

Revolution in bio-fuel: ‘Bio-IBA’ plant to be set up in Odisha

BPCL and Praj Industries have announced to set up a commercial demonstration plant of Bio-IBA (a type of advanced renewable fuel) at Bargarh Refinery in Odisha. Its specialty is that this bio-fuel can be blended directly into the existing diesel infrastructure without any major changes, which will play a big role in reducing carbon emissions.
