Brazilian President Lula da Silva has issued a stern warning against any kind of armed military intervention in Venezuela. The President warned that any use of armed force against Venezuela would prove fatal for the entire region.
Speaking on Saturday (20 December 2025) at the 67th summit of Mercosur and allied countries, President Lula talked about the military pressure being exerted on Venezuela by the US. He said that America’s threats, naval blockade and military presence on the Caribbean country Venezuela are extremely worrying. According to Xinhua news agency, Lula called it a military intervention by an external regional power, which is shocking and disturbing the entire Latin America.
Big statement of Brazilian President
Lula da Silva said clearly that peace and prosperity is the only right path for South America. The limits of international law are being tested. Armed intervention in Venezuela would be a humanitarian disaster for the entire continent and a dangerous example for the world. The Brazilian President also told that recently he had spoken on phone with US President Donald Trump. During this, Lula told Trump that instead of military confrontation, the path of negotiation and compromise is more effective and less harmful.
Ban on oil tankers coming to and from Venezuela
It is noteworthy that the Trump administration has completely stopped oil tankers traveling to and from Venezuela. Apart from this, the government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has been declared a foreign terrorist organization by the US. The US President also said later in an interview that the United States would continue to seize additional oil tankers. These American steps have been opposed by many Latin American countries and regional organizations. Appealing for dialogue, he has asked the United Nations and the international community to intervene in this issue and find a way for peace.
