He said that I believe that it would not be right to look at the entire film industry from the same perspective. I am sharing my personal opinion and it is not necessary that everyone agrees with this. ”
If Rahman is giving music in Ramayana then how is there discrimination??
Salim Merchant further stressed, citing the example of Rahman’s upcoming project, “If A. R. When Rahman is getting the opportunity to compose music for ‘Ramayana’, which is considered to be one of the biggest films in the history of Indian cinema, it is difficult to believe that any kind of communal bias is being done to him.
‘Ramayana’ is a project based on Hindu mythology and this shows that the industry values Rahman’s talent despite his religious identity. But this is my own opinion, he may have his own reasons.”
What did AR Rahman say?
This discussion started after Rahman’s interview with BBC Asian Network some time ago. Actually, the famous composer was asked whether he had ever faced discrimination in Bollywood because he was a Tamil composer. Responding to this question, Rahman had said, “People who are not creative now have the power to decide things, and it could have been a community thing, but not in front of me. It sounds to me like a Chinese whisper that they booked you, but the music company went ahead and hired five of their composers. I said, ‘Oh, this is great, relax for me, I can chill with my family.’
After debate and criticism following his remarks, A. R. Rehman later shared a video message making his intentions clear. The composer explained that he never intended to hurt anyone’s sentiments and emphasized that music has always been a bridge that connects cultures and celebrates diversity. Rahman said, “Dear friends, music has always been my way of connecting with, celebrating and honoring a culture. India is my inspiration, my teacher and my home. I understand that sometimes intentions can be misunderstood, but my aim has always been to uplift, honor and serve others through music. I have never wanted to hurt anyone and I hope my sincerity is felt. Will be done.”
