‘If I removed the veil of a Hindu woman in Haryana…’, Omar Abdullah’s sharp comment on Nitish Kumar’s hijab controversy

After the incident of pulling the hijab of a Muslim woman, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar is being attacked from all sides. Now Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed displeasure over this incident and has demanded Nitish Kumar to apologize to the female doctor. He also expressed displeasure over the statement of BJP leader Giriraj Singh and asked that even if he had removed the veil of a Hindu woman, would BJP have had the same reaction?

Recently, appointment letters were distributed to AYUSH doctors in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, in which a Muslim woman doctor was also included. While giving the appointment letter to that doctor, Nitish Kumar had touched his mask. The video of this incident went viral on social media. As soon as this video surfaced, many people became very angry.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Omar Abdullah said, ‘First of all, let us forget for a second that she was a Muslim woman, she was wearing hijab. Is it right to raise hands on women or tease their clothes? Had you done this, I would never have done it, so why did he feel the need to touch a woman’s clothes? After that, removing the hijab of a Muslim woman in this manner, so much so that I was reading today that the lady doctor no longer wants to take her orders. She says that she will not join the service now.

Omar Abdullah said that firstly, Nitish ji should realize his mistake, then he should call that doctor and apologize to him and efforts should be made to make him change his decision and come into service and serve the people.

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Giriraj Singh has defended this behavior of Nitish Kumar. He said that if someone is going to get the appointment letter, should he not show his face? Is this an Islamic country? Nitish Kumar played the role of a guardian. He also said that it is up to the woman whether she rejects the government job or goes to hell.

On Giriraj Singh’s statement, Omar Abdullah said, ‘You would expect the same from BJP. If this was the veil of a Hindu woman in Haryana or Rajasthan and I had removed it, would the BJP people have said the same? What an uproar there would have been if a Muslim leader had removed the veil of a Hindu woman. Since this doctor was a Muslim, BJP’s reaction is different. This is what we can expect from them. Can’t expect anything more than this.
