If the matches are washed out in the rain, then the semi-finals will be decided under this rule, this mathematics of T20 World Cup will baffle your head.

T20 World Cup 2026 Super-8 Semi-final Rule: Rain is wreaking havoc in the Super-8 stage of T20 World Cup 2026. The first match of Super-8 was scheduled for last Saturday (21st February) between Pakistan and New Zealand, which got washed out due to rain. Let us tell you that all the matches of Group 2 in Super-8 are to be held on Sri Lankan soil, where the threat of rain is looming every day.

In such a situation, a question started arising in the minds of the fans that if all the matches of Group 2 are washed out due to rain, then how will the decision be taken? In case of cancellation of all the matches, the teams will not have any win, nor will there be any net run rate. So let us know which rule of ICC will work in this situation.

Rules on cancellation of all matches

If all the matches are cancelled, then in this situation the tie breaker rule will apply as per the ICC T20 World Cup playing conditions. Under this rule, the number of wins in the group stage will be considered first. If the win remains equal, then the net run rate should be seen. If the run rate also remains the same. Then head to head and finally ICC T20 rankings will be seen.

Let us tell you that the ranking before 6th February will be considered as the basis. In this context, if all the matches of Group-2 are washed out due to rain and the decision is taken on the basis of ranking, then the teams of England and New Zealand will reach the semi-finals. Both the teams are at third and fourth position respectively in the ranking. Whereas the teams of Pakistan (sixth ranking) and Sri Lanka (eighth ranking) will be out.

If tie breaker rule is applicable in Group-1

On the other hand, if the tie breaker rule is implemented in Group-1, then India, which is at the top in the ranking, and South Africa, which is at fifth position, will get the semi-final place. Whereas the teams of West Indies and Zimbabwe, present at seventh and 12th position, will be eliminated. However, it is almost impossible that all the matches of Super-8 get washed out in the rain.
