A delegation of 10 leaders of Trinamool Congress (TMC) met the Election Commission of India on Wednesday (December 31, 2025). During the meeting, the delegation discussed 10 issues including alleged irregularities in the voter list. During this, he warned about finding irregularities in the final voter list of West Bengal and said that he will fight a legal battle. Leader of the delegation, Abhishek Banerjee said after meeting the Commission that answers to the five questions asked last time were not received, while except for two-three issues, no clear answer was given on the rest.
TMC also raised serious questions on the process of removing names from the voter list after the SIR process in West Bengal. He said that the names of 1 crore 36 lakh voters are under doubt, but their list has not been released yet. Apart from this, verification of voters above 60 years of age and sick should be done by visiting their homes instead of calling them in the office.
Delegation leader Abhishek Banerjee raised questions
The delegation also questioned BJP’s allegations of Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators, asking that of the 58 lakh names being removed, how many of them are Bangladeshi or Rohingya? Abhishek Banerjee asked, “The least number of votes are being deleted in West Bengal as compared to other states. Then why are micro observers being installed in Bengal itself? How are the names of voters who have filled the form being deleted, while those who have not filled the form should be deleted? Who is responsible for the mentality that is demeaning the state?” He said that after the draft list, mapping of 89% voters has been done. There is a conspiracy to defame Bengal.
What did TMC leaders say on Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of vote theft?
On the question asked on Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of vote theft, Abhishek Banerjee emphatically said, “Vote theft does not happen through EVMs, but because of irregularities in the voter list. If Congress had caught it, BJP would have lost in all four states.” Giving advice, he said, “Making allegations on TV will not work. Take to the streets. Workers should work. Theft will have to be caught.”
Banerjee appealed to the opposition parties, “Take this issue seriously. The more strength Amit Shah puts in, the stronger we will win the elections. The public is with us.” He said that earlier the voters used to form the government, now the government decides who will become the voter.
TMC leader warns CEC?
At the same time, the TMC leader also targeted Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of the Election Commission of India (ECI) Gyanesh Kumar, who was made CEC from Cooperative Secretary. He warned that he would continue the legal battle if any irregularities were found in the final voter list.
