On 17 December 2025, there was a big uproar late at night in Adiala Jail located in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Punjab Police showered chemically mixed water from water cannon on the sisters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and supporters of his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). This action was taken in cold weather, due to which the protesters got completely drenched.
Imran Khan’s sisters and supporters gathered
This demonstration outside Adiala jail was peaceful. Imran Khan’s sisters – Aalima Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Khan Niazi had gathered outside the jail along with PTI leaders and workers. His demand was to arrange a meeting with Imran Khan. Imran has been kept in Adiala jail and many serious cases are pending against him.
The protesters tried to march towards the jail, but were stopped by the police. Late at night the police dispersed everyone using water cannon. PTI has asked under which law this action was taken. The party said that such atrocities on peaceful demonstrations will not be tolerated.
Police violating High Court order
Islamabad High Court had ordered in March 2025 that Imran Khan should be allowed to meet his family twice a week i.e. on Tuesday and Thursday. But PTI says that this order is not being followed properly. The protesters were demanding compliance with this order.
PTI has strongly condemned this action of the police. The party alleges that the police sprayed chemical or poisonous water on women, elderly people and common people. Some workers were also beaten up and many were detained. PTI said that the government and the army are setting a new example of repression.
Pakistan Police snatched the independence of judiciary
Imran Khan’s sister Aalima Khan said that the independence of the judiciary has been taken away. Unemployment is increasing in the country and the security situation is worsening. He mentioned his sister Uzma’s brief meeting with Imran on December 2. Uzma told that Imran was very upset and angry. He and his wife Bushra Bibi are being subjected to mental stress in a small room.
This incident is further increasing the tension in Pakistan’s politics. PTI says that the government wants to keep Imran Khan isolated, but the public’s support is with him.
