‘Increase LPG production’, government orders to refineries, committee formed for supply to restaurants and hotels

In view of the current international situation and problems in fuel supply, the government has taken some major decisions regarding LPG gas. The government has asked oil refineries to increase the production of LPG and the additional gas produced should first be used for cylinders used in homes. So that the common people do not face shortage of gas.

Government’s priority for LPG supply

The government has given highest priority to domestic LPG supply. Besides, a new rule has been imposed to stop hoarding and black marketing. Now after taking a cylinder, the next booking can be done only after at least 25 days. At present, emphasis is being given to giving the imported LPG to important institutions like hospitals and educational institutions.

Committee formed of three executive directors

A committee of three executive directors (EDs) of oil companies has been formed to review the matters of LPG supply to restaurants, hotels and other industries, which will decide how much gas can be given to them.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has given this information by posting on social media platform X. The post read, in view of the current geopolitical disruptions and shortage of LPG on fuel supply, the Ministry has issued orders to oil refineries to produce more LPG and use the excess production for domestic use.

What does the government say on LPG cylinder?

The government has clearly said that no ban has been imposed on providing commercial LPG cylinders to the restaurant industry, but the situation on the ground seems different. Many gas suppliers are expressing their inability to provide commercial cylinders due to which restaurant and hotel businessmen are facing problems.

The Ministry has prioritized supply of LPG to households and introduced an inter-booking period of 25 days to avoid hoarding/black marketing. Non-domestic supply from imported LPG is being given priority to essential non-domestic sectors like hospitals and educational institutions. For supply of LPG to other non-domestic sectors, a committee of three executive officers of OMC has been constituted to review the representations received for supply of LPG to restaurants/hotels/other industries.
