Mobile Games: Recently, the news of the death of three minor sisters in Ghaziabad shocked the entire country. After this tragic incident, once again questions are being raised on the increasing addiction of mobile horror games among children and its mental impact. During the investigation, the police found mention of some scary mobile games in the girls’ diaries, after which parents, teachers and administration have all become alert. Although children find horror content exciting, when it becomes an obsession, it can have serious consequences.
Why did the Ghaziabad case increase concern?
Police say that no concrete evidence has been found so far to prove that mobile games were the direct cause of this incident. Still, seeing the same horror games being mentioned again and again makes one wonder what impact constant scary content can have on children’s minds. Especially when children remain glued to the phone for hours and are not monitored properly.
Some popular horror games came to light in the investigation
During the investigation, names of some games came up again and again which are very popular in India and can be easily downloaded. Due to these games being free or very cheap, they reach children quickly, which makes it difficult to control their access.
Spooky atmosphere of Poppy Playtime
Poppy Playtime takes kids to an abandoned toy factory filled with strange dolls, dark corners and unexpected scares. Its character Huggy Wuggy may have been created keeping teenagers in mind, but experts believe that this content can be mentally heavy for older children too.
The Baby in Yellow
This game named The Baby in Yellow seems innocent but in reality it is equally scary. In this, the player takes care of a child with whom supernatural events gradually get associated. Psychologists say that linking a common topic like child care with horror can create confusion and fear for young children.
The Creepy World of Evil Nun and Ice Scream
In Evil Nun, the player is locked in a scary school where he has to escape from a dangerous nun. Whereas in Ice Scream, there is a story of an ice cream selling villain who kidnaps children. Even though the graphics of these games are cartoon-like, their themes of fear, captivity and kidnapping can increase anxiety and fear in sensitive children.
Important precautions for parents
In the Ghaziabad case, the three sisters were 16, 14 and 12 years old and spent most of their time on mobile. The investigation is still ongoing and no single cause has been attributed. Still, experts agree that parents should talk openly with children, understand their online behavior and seek professional help without delay if the child shows sudden signs of fear, irritability or isolation.
