India accepted Iran’s condition to remove Indian ships from Hormuz? The truth has been revealed

The Iranian Embassy has completely refuted the Reuters news, which claimed that Iran has asked to give safe passage to Indian ships from Hormuz on the condition of releasing three oil tankers seized from India. While talking to ABP News, the Iranian Embassy clearly said that this report is not true and there is no such deal or condition.

What did Reuters claim?

Reuters, quoting sources, reported on March 16, 2026 that Iran has demanded India to release three tankers, Asphalt Star, Al Jafzia and Stellar Ruby. In return, Iran had promised to safely evacuate Indian ships (especially oil and gas ones) from Hormuz. The report also said that Iran has also asked for some medicines and medical equipment. These tankers were caught by the Coast Guard near Mumbai in February, it was alleged that they were hiding their identity, changing the AIS system and illegally transferring oil into the sea. One of these had the flag of Iran, the rest were of Nicaragua and Mali.

What is the stand of the Indian government?

The Indian government has also denied this report. The Foreign Ministry or official sources said that no such condition or deal has been made. S Jaishankar had recently said in an interview to the Financial Times that talks are going on with Iran and diplomacy is yielding some results, but he clarified that there is no blanket arrangement. The ships are being evacuated safely one by one.

What is the situation in the Strait of Hormuz?

In West Asia, there is danger in the Strait of Hormuz due to tension between America, Israel and Iran. Many Indian ships are stuck there or trying to pass. Recently two Indian LPG tankers left Hormuz safely and reached Mundra. Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Fatahi had earlier said that India is a friend, so way would be given, but later Iranian sources rejected some claims.
