In the Lok Sabha, the Home Minister was asked a question about the fencing on the borders of Pakistan, Myanmar and Bangladesh and the measures being taken to stop infiltration. The question asked was how many infiltration attempts have been registered since 2014. Answering the question, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said that more than 93 percent of the India-Pakistan international border has been physically fenced, whereas only about 79 percent of the India-Bangladesh border has been fenced.
Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said that the total length of the India-Pakistan border is 2,289.66 kilometers, out of which fencing has been completed on 2,135.13 kilometers i.e. 93.25 percent. The remaining 154.52 km, i.e. 6.75 percent, is still unfenced. The total length of India-Bangladesh border is 4,096.70 kilometers, out of which 3,239.92 kilometers (79.08 percent) has been fenced, while 856.78 kilometers i.e. 20.92 percent is still unfenced.
Government on data of infiltration incidents
The government also informed that the total length of India-Myanmar border is 1,643 km, where so far physical fencing work has been completed in 9.214 km area. There is no report of any case of infiltration on the India-China border. On the data of infiltration incidents, the government said that between 2014 and 2024, the maximum number of infiltration cases were registered on the India-Bangladesh border. In 2024, 977 infiltration attempts were detected on this border. In 2024, 41 cases were reported on the India-Pakistan border, 37 on the India-Myanmar border and 23 on the India-Nepal and Bhutan borders. The government informed that the government is making continuous efforts regarding the security of the border. To further strengthen border security, fencing, surveillance system and deployment of security forces are being continuously strengthened.
