India’s star wicketkeeper batsman Jitesh Sharma did not get a place in the T20 World Cup squad. Team India later became the winner of T20 World Cup 2026, but Jitesh Sharma has no regrets about not being able to play the World Cup. Jitesh told that his father needed him more than playing the World Cup. In fact, Jitesh’s father had passed away a few days before the start of the T20 World Cup.
Last year, till Asia Cup 2025, Jitesh Sharma was being seen as the second choice of wicketkeeper in Team India. But Ishaan Kishan’s form was better than him, due to which Ishaan got a place in the T20 World Cup squad and Jitesh did not. In such a situation, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson made important contributions to the historic World Cup victory of the Indian team.
According to news agency PTI, Jitesh Sharma told that he was disappointed when he got the information about his exclusion from the T20 World Cup squad, but later realized that his father needed him more.
He said, “When I got the news of being dropped from the squad, I was disappointed. I am also a human being, so at first I was very disappointed. But my friends and family helped me overcome this difficult decision. My father fell ill and passed away on February 1.”
Jitesh further said, “I later realized that my father needed me more than the World Cup. I have no regrets about it. I am not angry, but rather thank God that I got the opportunity to spend time with my father and be with him in his last days.”
