Apple iPhone: In the last few years, Apple has continuously increased its investment in India and now its impact is clearly visible. According to recent reports, the number of iPhones manufactured in India has increased by about 53 percent in the last one year. With this, now one out of every four iPhones manufactured worldwide is being manufactured in India.
Strategy to reduce dependence on China
According to media reports, the main objective of the company is to reduce dependence on China for production. A major reason behind this is also being said to be the ongoing tariff dispute between America and China. For this reason, Apple is gradually strengthening its manufacturing network in other countries also, in which India is emerging as the most important centre. According to the information, about 5.5 crore iPhones were assembled in India in the year 2025, whereas in 2024 this figure was about 3.6 crore. This means that a big jump has been seen in production in just one year.
22–23 crore iPhones are made every year
Apple produces approximately 22 to 23 crore iPhones globally every year. Although most of the production still takes place in China, last year there were obstacles in the shipments from there due to the US-China tariff dispute. This is why the company rapidly started work on alternative production centres.
Cost is high in India but government support
However, the cost of assembling a phone in India is still said to be slightly higher than China and Vietnam. Despite this, the company is expanding its operations in India. A major reason for this is the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme of the Government of India, whose objective is to make the country a global manufacturing hub. With the help of these incentives, companies are being helped to balance the challenges related to supply chain and logistics to a great extent.
iPhone 17 series also assembled in India
Currently, Apple’s entire iPhone 17 series—including the Pro and Pro Max models—is being assembled in India. The company’s major suppliers like Foxconn, Pegatron and Tata Electronics are playing an important role in the production here. The same companies also produce older models like iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 which are sold in India as well as abroad.
Preparation for more investment in India
The report also says that Apple is looking for new partners to manufacture some important components in India. These include the lithium-ion battery cell, the phone’s external structure and accessories. The company is also considering the possibilities of manufacturing products like AirPods and Apple Watch. There is also a possibility that Apple may launch Apple Pay service in India this year.
New devices also launched
Recently Apple has introduced many new products. These include the new iPad, MacBook Pro with M5 chip, and MacBook Neo. MacBook Neo has been specially introduced for students and those users who want to be a part of the Apple ecosystem at a low cost.
