International Women’s Day: Those female characters of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films who created new dimensions on screen

International Women’s Day is being celebrated on 8 March. Women have had to work hard to strengthen their hold in Hindi cinema. Earlier, women were used in films as side characters and glamour, but due to some actresses and film producers and directors, the status of women started changing. One such producer-director is Sanjay Leela Bhansali, whose every film has been female oriented.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s characters are excellent, but a lot of effort is put into everything from his clothes to his dialogues. This is the reason why every character in his film seems alive. There is a female touch in every film of Sanjay Leela Bhansali because in real life also he was brought up only by his mother. He has seen every work of his mother very closely, and that is why he does not want the image of the work that his mother had to do, to be seen in the female characters of his films.

Khamoshi-The Musical

The film ‘Khamoshi-The Musical’ comes at first number. Manisha Koirala’s character Annie in the film is also the story of a woman who has left her dreams behind and is only engaged in serving her disabled parents. Despite meeting her love Sameer, she chooses family over love, but even after being thrown out of the house by her parents, she lives her life like a strong woman.

We have given our heart

Instead of exaggerating Aishwarya Rai’s beauty, the film shows her as a vibrant human being whose personality goes far beyond those deep blue eyes. In Nandini we get to see a multidimensional female character, who is independent and wants to live the flight of her dreams. Nandini is bubbly and has the strength to fight her family for her love, that too after her marriage to another man.

black

The film ‘Black’ is also a female oriented film. In this, an attempt has been made to show the world from the perspective of a blind and deaf woman. Rani’s character in the film is a girl who can neither hear nor see. Rani Mukherjee worked very hard for this character.

Bajirao Mastani

In the film ‘Bajirao Mastani’, not only Mastani but also the character of Kashibai was highly appreciated. While Mastani does not shy away from battle to get love, Kashibai faces every situation alone for the sake of her family and kingdom. Both the characters in the film are alone, but strong. Both Mastani and Kashibai know how to pick up the sword and fight for themselves.

padmavat

Deepika’s character of graceful Maharani in Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat’ also cannot be ignored. The film is based on Rajput pride and bravery, where despite the presence of Shahid Kapoor in the film, the lead role was of Deepika Padukone. In the film, the bejeweled Maharani strategically fights an invader like Khilji to save her femininity and ultimately commits Jauhar in the fight to save the honor of women.

Gangubai Kathiawadi

Alia Bhatt’s character of Gangubai was also brilliant. The character in the film was created in such a way that the woman was shown as a symbol of both power and destruction. In the film, the woman was shown as tough and not soft, who chose to blossom like a lotus in every swamp. Moreover, every character in Heeramandi was complete in itself.
