Iran blew up a ship coming to India in the Strait of Hormuz, MEA reacted, know what was said?

India on Wednesday (11 March 2026) condemned the attack on a cargo ship coming to Gujarat through the Strait of Hormuz. India said that targeting cargo ships should be avoided. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has confirmed that two Indian citizens have died in the attack on a merchant ship in the Middle East, while one is reported missing.

MEA statement on targeting ships coming to India

The Foreign Ministry said, ‘We have received reports of an attack on the Thai cargo ship Mayuri Nari in the Strait of Hormuz on March 11. This ship was going to Kandla in Gujarat. India condemns the targeting of cargo ships in military attacks following the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Many people including Indian civilians have lost their lives in the initial attack in this war. India reiterates that we should avoid putting the lives of cargo ships and innocent civilians at risk.

IRGC told why it attacked?

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) said it attacked the Liberian-flagged container ship Express Rome and the Thai cargo ship Mayuri Nari as they entered the Strait of Hormuz, ignoring warnings. IRGC Navy Commander Alireza Tangsiri is posting on social media that any ship will have to take permission from Iran to pass through here.

India expressed concern over the situation in Iran

In addition, the Iranian military’s operational command has announced on state TV that any ship belonging to the US, Israel or their allies will be considered a target. Apart from this, a leader also warned of not allowing oil to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. MEA spokesperson Jaiswal said that India is also worried about Iran because nine thousand of our people are stranded there. Some first heeded our advisory and returned home, but many are still there and the Embassy is in contact with them.
