Pentagon’s report has come out regarding the attack on the school in Iran. Initial military investigation has indicated that the missile attack on Shajrah Tayyebeh School located in Minab city of Iran on February 28 was due to the mistake of the US Army. According to the investigation, the US military used old and incorrect targeting data while targeting a nearby Iranian naval base, due to which the Tomahawk cruise missile fell on the school building.
Big revelation in Pentagon report
According to the report, this building was earlier a part of the military complex, but was later converted into a school. At least 175 people died in this attack, most of whom are said to be children. According to the New York Times report, American officials say that the investigation is still going on and it is being found out why the old data was not re-verified. This incident has raised questions on America’s military operation. US President Donald Trump had initially blamed Iran for the attack, but now the White House has said that the government will accept the final findings of the investigation.
Was old data used?
Experts believe that this could be one of the worst military mistakes of recent decades. This school building was surrounded and isolated from the military base between 2013 and 2016. When data from the defense intelligence agency becomes outdated, intelligence officials have to re-verify the target. According to US officials, investigating officials have investigated whether any AI models, data analysis programs or other technical intelligence gathering tools were responsible for wrongly targeting the school.
America is not at fault in this attack: Trump
US President Donald Trump claimed that Iran itself attacked a school in Minab city. He said that Iran got Tomahawk missile from somewhere and attacked his school with it. After this, when the video of the Tomahawk missile being fired came out, Trump clarified, ‘I was told that it is being investigated. America alone should not be blamed for this.
