Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) will launch the first launch mission of this year i.e. 2026 today i.e. Monday (January 12, 2026) at 10:17 am. Under this mission, Earth Observation Satellite EOS-N1 will be placed in orbit as the primary payload through PSLV-C62 rocket. Along with this, a total of 15 co-passenger satellites will also be launched.
This 64th PSLV flight will be from the PSLV-DL variant, in which the payload will be placed in a 505 km sun-synchronous orbit. The rocket will be launched from Launch Pad-1 of Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. According to ISRO, vehicle integration work has been completed and final pre-launch checks are underway.
Main satellite and payload details
- EOS-N1 (Anwesha): It is a hyperspectral imaging satellite weighing approximately 400 kg developed for the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). It will play an important role in defense surveillance, agricultural assessment, urban mapping and environmental tracking with 12 meter resolution.
- KID (Kestrel Initial Technology Demonstrator): The Spanish startup’s 25-kilogram re-entry technology demonstrator, which will undergo re-entry testing with a splashdown in the South Pacific Ocean after its final deployment.
- Other satellites: Along with India, many commercial and research satellites from Mauritius, Luxembourg, UAE, Singapore, Europe and America are part of this mission.
Isro’s work horse is considered P.S.L.V.
It is noteworthy that PSLV is considered the work horse of ISRO. In 63 flights so far, this rocket has successfully carried out historic missions like Chandrayaan-1, Mars Orbiter Mission and Aditya-L1. PSLV also holds the world record of launching 104 satellites in a single mission in the year 2017.
However, the PSLV-C61 mission had failed in May last year, hence this launch tomorrow on Monday (January 12) holds special significance for ISRO. The total duration of this mission is expected to be approximately 1 hour 48 minutes.
