‘IUML and Jamaat-e-Islami are doing dangerous politics of religion’, alleges Kerala BJP President

Accusing United Democratic Front (UDF) constituents Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and Jamaat-e-Islami of indulging in ‘dangerous politics’ of using religion to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala, state BJP president Rajeev Chandrashekhar on Thursday (January 8, 2026) said his party’s only goal is to bring development in the state.

Chandrashekhar said in a press conference here that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Kerala on January 11 to launch the BJP’s campaign for the upcoming assembly elections. He alleged that both the Indian Union Muslim League and Jamaat-e-Islami have no interest in the development or employment opportunities of the youth, rather their entire focus is on defeating the BJP.

Chandrashekhar said, ‘Therefore, we need to discuss the politics in which religion is being used to defeat the party which wants to bring development in the state. We need to know who is benefiting from this and who is behind this dangerous politics in the name of secularism. Our politics is of development.

He alleged that Congress is a ‘weak party controlled by Jamaat-e-Islami’. He said that before the assembly elections, these issues will be raised and brought to the attention of the public. Asked about BJP’s meetings with members of some religious communities, Chandrashekhar said, ‘We are focusing on reaching out to the Malayali community and reaching out to developed Kerala.’

He said the BJP will appeal to the people to defeat the “anti-development forces of the UDF, (ruling) Left Democratic Front (LDF) and Jamaat-e-Islami” in the state.

When the state BJP president was asked about the statement of Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan that there is a lack of opportunities for members of his community, he said that these concerns should be discussed.

He said the results of the recent municipal elections are a significant gain for the BJP and they indicate political changes in the state.
