Jammu and Kashmir is once again at the center of anti-terrorism action. Operation Trashi-I, launched in January 2026, is considered to be a big and well-planned operation of the security forces against terrorists in the Jammu region. The main objective of this operation is to eliminate the terrorists operating in Kishtwar district and surrounding hilly areas and completely weaken their network. On the morning of Saturday (January 31, 2026), in the border village Chaliyari of Jammu and Kashmir district, a Pakistani drone intruded into the Indian border and the BSF fired 4 rounds. After this he returned back to the Pakistan border. After the incident, search operation is going on in the area.
According to ANI report, an encounter took place between terrorists and security forces in Dolgam and Chatru areas of Kishtwar on Saturday morning (31 January 2026). This is an indication that continuous monitoring and action is being taken on the ground based on information from intelligence agencies. Security agencies were alert about the presence of terrorists in this area for a long time.
Background and beginning of Operation Trashi-I
Operation Trashi-I is a joint anti-terrorism operation, which is being conducted jointly by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force. This campaign was started in January 2026 from Chatru area of Kishtwar district. This area has been considered sensitive for terrorist activities in the past also, because the dense forests and high mountains here help the terrorists to hide.
Intelligence agencies were continuously receiving inputs that Pakistan-backed terrorist organizations, especially terrorists associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed, are active by setting up bases in this area. Only after confirmation of this information was Operation Trashi-I formally launched.
Encounter situation in Dolgam and Chatru
There was contact between terrorists and security forces in Dolgam area in the early hours of 31 January 2026. It was told by the army that before the operation, all the intelligence information was thoroughly analyzed. After this, after the presence of terrorists in the area was confirmed, a cordon and search operation was started. After the encounter, the entire area has been sealed and the search operation is going on continuously. So far, no official confirmation has been made regarding the killing of any terrorist or the loss caused to the security forces. White Knight Corps has clarified that Operation Trashi-I is still going on and the situation is being constantly monitored.
Objectives of Operation Trashi-I
Operation Trashi-I is not limited to just one encounter but is part of a long-term strategy against terrorism in the Jammu region. The objective of this operation is to identify and neutralize the terrorists hiding in the forests and inaccessible hilly areas. Along with this, eliminating the arms supply, logistics network and local support system to the terrorists is also an important goal of this operation. Security forces are also paying special attention to the routes which terrorists have been using to travel from Jammu region to Kashmir valley.
Strategy of security forces in difficult situations
Dolgam and Chatru region of Kishtwar is considered very challenging geographically. Here dense forests, high mountains, limited road connectivity and changing weather create great difficulties for the security forces. Despite this, modern technology and resources are being used to make Operation Trashi-I effective. Aerial surveillance is being done through drones and additional security forces have been deployed on the ground. Coordination is being maintained between all the units through real time communication, so that the terrorists do not get any chance to escape.
Strict message against terrorism in Jammu region
Operation Trashi-I is being seen as a strong and clear message against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. In recent years, terrorists have tried to increase their presence in the hill districts of Jammu rather than South Kashmir. Through this campaign, the security forces want to send the message that no matter how inaccessible the area is, there is no safe place for terrorism.
