A 48-year-old man lost his life in a tragic accident on Wednesday (January 14, 2026) morning in Bidar district of Karnataka. The incident took place on the national highway near Talmadgi village, where the motorcycle rider died on the spot after being hit by the banned kite string lying on the road.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjeev Kumar, who was a resident of Bamboolgi village and was a lorry cleaner by profession. According to the police, Sanjeev Kumar was going to a local hostel on a motorcycle at around 11 am to pick up his daughter. Meanwhile, the string of the high-tension kite spread on the road got entangled in his bike. As Manjha moved forward, he got wrapped around Sanjeev Kumar’s neck and his throat was cut due to the sharp edge. He fell from the bike and died on the spot within a few minutes.
Action on illegal sale of Manja
While giving information to the press after the incident, Pradeep Gunti said that Manjha used for flying kites is completely banned, yet some people are using it. He said that in view of the Makar Sankranti festival, a special campaign is being run across the district for the last three days, under which action is being taken against the illegal sale of Manjha. Till now, illegal Manjha has been seized from at least three places.
Strict warning to common citizens
Bidar Superintendent of Police issued a strict warning to shopkeepers and common citizens, saying that selling, storing or using Manjha is a criminal act and strict legal action will be taken against those who violate the rules. The police have appealed to the people not to use the banned Manja for the safety of their own and others’ lives.
