Karnataka News: A very painful and heartbreaking incident has come to light from Chitradurga district of Karnataka. There was a massive collision between a container lorry and a private sleeper bus on National Highway-48 in the early hours of today. In this horrific accident, the bus caught fire, due to which many passengers got trapped inside. According to preliminary information, about 17 people are feared dead in this accident.
How did the accident happen?
The accident occurred near Koralthu Cross in Chitradurga district. It is being told that a container lorry going from Hiriyur towards Bengaluru suddenly went out of the driver’s control. The lorry crossed the divider in the middle of the road and collided with a private sleeper coach bus coming from the opposite direction. The collision was so strong that the bus immediately caught fire and within no time the fire engulfed the entire bus.
Many passengers were sleeping in the bus at the time of the accident. As soon as the fire broke out, there was chaos and many people got trapped inside the bus. As soon as the information was received, police and fire department teams reached the spot. After much effort the fire was brought under control. The injured were immediately admitted to the nearest hospital, where the condition of some is said to be critical.
Fear of increasing number of deaths
Police officials said that the exact number of dead can be confirmed only after identification and counting is completed. At present, 17 people are feared dead, but this figure may increase due to seriously injured people.
As soon as information about the incident was received, Superintendent of Police of Chitradurga district Ranjit reached the spot and ordered an investigation into the entire matter. A case has been registered at Hiriyur Rural Police Station. After the accident, traffic on National Highway-48 was disrupted for several hours. Later the road was cleared by removing the debris. This accident has created an atmosphere of mourning in the entire area.
