Karnataka News: Girl commits suicide in Bidar, Karnataka, accuses in-laws of pressuring her into prostitution

A 22-year-old married woman allegedly committed suicide due to continuous harassment by her in-laws in Basavakalyan town of Bidar district of Karnataka. The deceased has been identified as Anjanabai Shekhar Patil (22), who was a resident of Bhalki, another town in Bidar district.

Married in 2022, was mother of 11 month old child

Regarding this case, Bidar Police said that this incident took place in a house located in Om Colony near the bus stand of Basavakalyan city, where Anjanabai hanged herself inside the house and her body was found hanging in the house. According to the police, the deceased Anjanabai was married to Shekhar Patil, a resident of Basavakalyan city, in the year 2022. She has left behind an 11 month old innocent child.

Women were pressurized into prostitution

According to the police FIR, ever since her marriage to Shekhar Patil, Anjanabai was being harassed mentally and physically on a daily basis by her in-laws. Apart from this, it is also alleged that the deceased Anjanabai was pressurized into prostitution and she was under severe mental stress due to domestic violence.

Father of the deceased complained, three accused in custody

The deceased’s father Vijay Kumar has alleged in the complaint that his daughter was beaten and harassed for refusing to maintain illicit relations. Based on the complaint of the deceased’s father, a case has been registered at Basavakalyan City Police Station. Police have registered a case against three accused including husband Shekhar Patil. The police have taken the accused into custody and started interrogating them and further investigation is underway in the case.
