L Subramaniam | Special conversation on Revolutionizing Music, Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival

Recently we talked to legendary violin maestro Dr. From L. Subramaniam, where he shares his life, music journey and the story behind Lakshmi Narayan Global Music Festival

Dr. Subramaniam told that his first public performance was at the Nallur Kandaswamy Temple in Sri Lanka at the age of just 6. That moment was very emotional and nerve-wracking for him, because the organizers did not want him to perform, but his father, legendary violinist Lakshmi Narayana, remained firm on his decision and suddenly he got a chance to perform solo on the stage. That performance became the beginning of his music career.

Talking about his father, Dr. Subramaniam said that he had dreamed of making the Indian violin from an accompaniment instrument to a solo instrument, his vision was that the Indian violin should also be heard on global stages like Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Sydney Opera House, taking this dream forward, he developed new techniques and gave the violin a global identity.

After the Sri Lanka riots, the family had to leave everything and come back to India, from where his father started his journey again from zero.

Dr. Subramaniam also spoke in detail about his Western Classical Music education, jazz fusion albums, international collaborations and orchestral compositions, his experimental album Fantasy Without Limits ranked among the top albums in the international jazz category, after which he created several critically acclaimed fusion and orchestral works.

Along with music, he also completed MBBS, because his parents wanted him to have a stable professional backup. Today he is a strong face of Indian classical music with multiple honorary doctorates, orchestral symphonies and global recognitions.

Talking about the festival, he said that Lakshmi Narayan Global Music Festival is a tribute to his father, this year the festival is even more special, because for the first time orchestra, choir and ballet will perform together, this time the highlight will be Navagraha Symphony, which is a 45-minute symphonic composition based on 9 planets, in which three generations will share the stage together.

While giving a message to his fans, Dr. Subramaniam said that this festival will be a rare experience, where the audience will get to see and hear something that has never happened before in India.
