Legal crisis on ‘O Romeo’: Hussain Ustra’s daughter approaches court to stop its release

Shahid Kapoor’s upcoming film ‘O Romeo’ is stuck in legal trouble even before its release. Sanobar Shaikh, daughter of late journalist and encounter informer Hussain Shaikh alias ‘Hussain Ustra’, has sought a stay on the release of the film in Mumbai City Civil Court. He says that the film is based on his father’s life and its use without permission is raising questions about his father’s respect.

Accusation on father’s image
Sanobar Shaikh claims that his father’s personality has been portrayed in a wrong and derogatory manner in the film. The petition said the film’s teasers and promos portray it as being based on ‘true events’, which directly matches Hussain Ustra’s past as a whistleblower against D-Company. According to him, his father’s life and image are a family legacy and cannot be used for commercial gain without permission.

lawsuit and allegations
This case has been filed against film producer Sajid Nadiadwala and other people associated with the film. Advocate D.V. The petition filed through Saroj said that Hussain Sheikh was a law abiding citizen who had helped the law enforcement agencies. The petition alleges that the film shows them in a ‘derogatory’ manner due to which the family may face social boycott or criticism.

Manufacturers’ response
Earlier, when Sanobar Shaikh had sent legal notices, the producers of the film replied that the film is completely fictional. He said that similarity with any person is just a coincidence and no one’s consent is required for it. Despite this, Sanobar Shaikh has demanded in the court a permanent ban on the theatrical, TV and OTT release of the film.

Hearing and Release Information
Mumbai City Civil Court will hear this case on 6 February. The official release date of the film is fixed for 13th February. Sanobar Sheikh says that the release of the film is a violation of his father’s ‘right to privacy’ and an attempt to malign the character of a deceased person.
