The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday (January 30, 2026) strongly retaliated against the statement given by the country’s former Vice President Hamid Ansari regarding the medieval rulers Mahmud Ghazni and Lodi dynasty. The BJP alleged that the opposition was trying to reinvent history and downplay the violence against religious symbols of Hindus.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala said regarding this matter that this statement is not an isolated statement, but it is a repeatedly repeated pattern, which shows an attempt to clean up the events related to India’s medieval past.
He said, ‘After calling Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid as youth leaders, now the Congress ecosystem and Hamid Ansari are glorifying Mahmood Ghazni. This was the same ruler who had destroyed and desecrated the Somnath temple of India.
Attempt to hide the atrocities of foreign invaders: Poonawala
Poonawalla said, ‘Congress has repeatedly tried to interpret medieval history to suit the existing political narrative.’ He alleged that the ecosystem of the Congress party glorifies Ghazni, opposes Somnath Swabhiman festival and tries to hide the atrocities committed on Hindus by evil foreign invaders like Aurangzeb.
