The Chief Minister of West Bengal has reached the Supreme Court against the process of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list going on in West Bengal. He has sought permission to present his own side. However, at present she is sitting at the back seat in the courtroom. She has said that being the Chief Minister and the head of Trinamool Congress, she is fully aware of the etiquette and procedure of the Supreme Court and undertakes to conduct herself as per the established rules and practices.
The bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Vipul Panchauli will hear the case. Mamta Banerjee is sitting on the back chair in the courtroom. Mamata Banerjee has demanded in the petition that no voter mapped through the voter list of 2002 should be removed from the new list under the logical discrepancy category. They should get a chance to correct the errors. According to the petition, about 70 lakh names in the logical discrepancy category have been noticed due to inconsistency or difference in spelling. They should be corrected on the basis of available records.
Mamata Banerjee has demanded that the Election Commission should clarify why the voters have been kept in the logical discrepancy category and what is the schedule of their hearing. He said that the micro observers who were appointed without statutory authority should be withdrawn. They should be prevented from interfering in the work of ERO.
Mamta Banerjee said that micro observers should be stopped from using any statutory power. All the steps taken by them till now should be declared illegal. In cases of ground investigation, the prescribed procedure should be followed. They have also demanded that Aadhaar card, permanent residence certificate, panchayat residence certificate, family register, socio-economic caste census data, land or house allotment certificate and other documents issued by the state government should be accepted.
Mamta Banerjee said that the election officials should get information about all the processes through official channels. This should not be done through informal means like WhatsApp.
