A minor dispute that started between school children in Vinayak Nagar colony under Film Nagar police station area of Hyderabad suddenly turned into a violent clash between two groups. According to eyewitnesses, first there was a mutual altercation, then within some time the children divided into two groups and stone pelting and scuffling started.

It is being told that there was an argument between 8th and 9th class students of two different schools over an old rivalry. While returning from tuition and school in the evening, the debate intensified and within no time 15-20 youths from both sides gathered. Traffic was disrupted for some time due to pushing, abusing and throwing of stones on the road. Nearby shops pulled down their shutters as a precaution. There are also reports of minor injuries to some pedestrians, although no serious injuries have been confirmed.
Police examining CCTV footage
As soon as information about the incident was received, the Film Nagar police team reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The police have detained some youth and started questioning them. Officials say that CCTV footage is being scrutinized and parents are also being called to the police station so that such an incident does not happen again in future. At present additional police force has been deployed in the area.
Local residents say that petty fights among teenagers have increased in the last few months. Earlier too, incidents of mutual fighting had come to light twice, but they were resolved within a limited scope. This time the matter has reached the streets, due to which concerns about law and order have increased. People have demanded that regular patrolling around schools should be increased and counseling should be arranged for teenagers.
Police have appealed that parents should keep an eye on the activities of children and not pay attention to the rumors spreading on social media. Police said that action will be taken against those found guilty under the Juvenile Justice Act and related sections. At present the situation is said to be under control, but tension remains in the area.
