A big case has come to light against Haldiram’s Sweet House located in Athapur area of Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana. Customers alleged that there was mold and old stock of sweets was being sold. On the basis of this complaint, Attapur police has registered a criminal case against the management. Samples of all the sweet products have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) so that the investigation can be completed.
People lodged police complaint
The incident started in the evening on Monday (February 16, 2026), when several customers visited the shop and complained. He said that mold was visible on the sweets and they looked old. Some people said that these goods were being sold at a discount, but the quality was very poor. The displeasure of the customers increased so much that they went to the police station and lodged a written complaint. The police took immediate action and registered a case under sections 79, 274, 275, 115(2), 131 and 352 of the BNS Act. These sections apply to serious issues related to food safety, such as selling harmful items and fraud.

The investigation of the case is still going on. Police and food safety officials seized all the sweets from the shop and sent them to FSL for testing. Further action will be clear only after the report comes. If the report confirms mold or spoilage, the shop may be sealed and the management may have to face strict punishment.

Such complaints have already come to light in the name of a big company like Haldiram. There have been reports of mold or insects being found in packaged sweets several times across the country. Food safety issues are also common in Hyderabad, such as selling adulterated food or expired products. Recently, such allegations were made against some other shops too, where old things were sold, but this time due to it being a renowned brand, the matter is gaining more headlines. Customers have now become alert and are saying that quality check is necessary even during festivals.
