Assam Election Congress Candidates List: The dates of the assembly elections to be held in Assam this year may not have been announced yet, but Congress has released the first list of its candidates. Names of 42 candidates are included in the first list. The most special name in this is that of Congress MP and Assam Congress state president Gaurav Gogoi, who will contest the assembly elections. Congress has made him its candidate from Jorhat seat. The party has made former state president Ripun Bora its candidate from Barachalla.
Congress released the list
All India Congress Committee (AICC) has released the list of candidates on social media platform X. The name of Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia is also included in the list of 42 candidates, who has been nominated by Congress from Nazira. He is currently the MLA from here. Apart from this, sons of two Congress MPs Rakibul Hussain and Pradyut Bordoloi will also be seen contesting the assembly elections. Congress has given ticket to Rakibul’s son Tanjeel Hussain from Samaguri while Bordoloi’s son Prateek will contest from Margherita.
Ticket from Barkhetri to Dingata Burman
Congress has fielded Girish Barua from Bongaigaon, Mahananda Sarkar from Barpeta (SC), Ramen Singh Rabha from Boko-Chaygaon (SC). Nandita Das has been given ticket from Hajo-Sualkuchi (SC), Satyabrata Kalita from Kamalpur. Apart from this, tickets have been given to Diganta Burman from Barkhetri, Ashok Kumar Sarma from Nalbari, Ratul Patuwari from Tihu. Bubul Das has been made the candidate from Jagiroad (SC), Utpal Bania has been made the candidate from Raha (SC).
When can assembly elections be held in Assam?
The dates of assembly elections in Assam have not been officially announced yet, although it is believed that elections may be held in March-April this year. At present, BJP has the maximum number of 64 MLAs in the 126-member House. Apart from this, its ally party Assam Gana Parishad has 9 MLAs, United People’s Party Liberal has 7 and Bodoland People’s Front has 3 MLAs. At the same time, the main opposition party Congress has 26 MLAs, AIUDF has 15 MLAs and CPI (M) has 1 MLA. The number of independent MLAs is 1.
