The opposition cornered the government in Parliament on Thursday over the alleged shortage of LPG cylinders in the country. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi gave notice for discussion on the issue, while in the Parliament complex, opposition MPs demonstrated over the cylinder crisis and raised slogans against the government.
Demand for discussion on LPG shortage
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi gave notice to discuss the shortage of LPG in the Lok Sabha. The opposition says that the supply of cylinders is being affected in many parts of the country and the government should give a clear answer on this.
Government said – ready to answer
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that this is an important issue and the government is ready to respond to it. He said that it is not that the government does not want to answer. The government will respond on this issue as soon as the concerned ministers come to the House.
Opposition demonstration in Parliament premises
Many opposition MPs including Rahul Gandhi demonstrated in the Parliament complex regarding the LPG crisis. During this, the MPs raised slogans like ‘Narendra is also missing, cylinder is also missing’ and demanded the government to clarify the situation.
Rahul Gandhi’s attack on Prime Minister
Rahul Gandhi said, “Normally the process is that you can ask to talk. That’s why I sought permission to make a statement about the situation of LPG gas and oil in the country… But a new process has started that first the ministers will decide, then I will speak, then the ministers will answer… Actually the main thing is that gas, all the fuel is going to be a problem because actually our energy security has been compromised. Wrong foreign policy has created this problem… Now we have to prepare. We still have some time left.”
He further said, “The government and the Prime Minister should start preparations immediately, otherwise crores of people will suffer huge losses… We are going into a volatile time. During this time you have to change your thinking. I am suggesting to the government that now they have to start thinking deeply and ensure that our people do not suffer huge losses. I am not making any political statement. I see that a big problem is coming… The problem is that the Prime Minister is not able to function as the Prime Minister of the country. Are…”
Concern also expressed on energy security
Rahul Gandhi said that fuel can become a big problem in the coming times because the energy security of the country has been affected. According to him, this situation has arisen due to wrong foreign policy. He said that the government still has some time to prepare, hence the Prime Minister and the government should take immediate steps, otherwise crores of people may have to suffer huge losses.
