New edge will be seen in Team India’s fast-bowling, BCCI gave big responsibility to Zaheer Khan

BCCI has handed over the responsibility of running the fast bowling movement in India to veteran cricketer Zaheer Khan. Zaheer will now help in creating a new generation of fast bowlers in the country. He has got the responsibility to organize a special fast bowling training camp at BCCI’s Center of Excellence in Bengaluru.

According to a report published in Times of India, the Center of Excellence has not had a chief fast bowling coach since December last year. The tenure of 60-year-old previous coach Troy Cooley, who had been working as fast bowling coach at COE for four years, ended in December.

BCCI started accepting applications for this post on February 9, but a replacement for Troy Cooley has not been found yet.

A BCCI source quoted by TOI said that a group of fast bowlers have been invited from cricket associations of several states, who will participate in the fast-bowling camp to be held from February 28-March 2 and this training camp will be organized under the guidance of Zaheer Khan.

BCCI’s Center of Excellence Head of Cricket VVS Laxman has also supported this initiative. The source said that Zaheer Khan looks at the role of coaching with great enthusiasm. He was in the Lucknow Super Giants team and believes that he can contribute in preparing the next generation of fast bowlers.

It is not yet clear whether Zaheer Khan wants to take up a full-time coaching role at the Center of Excellence or not. When BCCI released the job vacancy, BCCI had written in the job description that the bowling coach coming to the Center of Excellence will work closely with the support staff of the Indian cricket team and will also help in preparing the new generation of fast bowlers.
