Nitin Nabin elected unopposed as National President of BJP, 37 nominations in favor, official announcement to be made tomorrow

Nitin Nabin has been elected as the national president of Bharatiya Janata Party. A statement issued by BJP’s National Election Officer said that only Nitin Nabin’s name was proposed for the post of National President. Nomination papers were received for a total of 37 seats and all were found valid. Party election officer Dr. K. Laxman told that Nitin Nabin was elected unopposed because no other nomination was made. The official announcement of Nitin Nabin’s name will take place on Tuesday (January 20, 2026).

37 nominations filed in support of Nitin Nabin

The process of election of the National President of Bharatiya Janata Party was started after the election of 30 state presidents out of 36 states was over, which is more than the minimum required 50 percent. On January 16, 2026, notification of the election schedule was issued and the election list was published. As per the scheduled schedule, the nomination process was completed on Monday (January 19, 2026) from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. A total of 37 sets of nomination papers were received in favor of Nitin Nabin for the post of National President.

Veteran party leaders submitted nomination papers

J. P. Nadda and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah, Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, senior leaders Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhupendra Yadav and Kiren Rijiju. A set of nomination papers of Nitin Nabin was handed over to Laxman. After this, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and other leaders of the state also filed another set of nomination papers in support of Nitin Nabin.

Nitin Nabin was appointed the working president of the party only last month. On this occasion, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant were also present. Leaders of many states including Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Assam, Jharkhand also filed nomination papers in support of Nitin Nabin.

Process of becoming national president in BJP

The national president of BJP is elected by an electoral college composed of representatives of the party’s National Council and State Councils. This election process is monitored by the National Election Officer of the party. According to the constitution of BJP, any 20 members of the electoral college of a state can jointly propose for the post of national president the name of a person who has been an active member for four terms and whose membership period is at least 15 years. However, such a joint proposal should come from at least five states where elections for the National Council have been completed.
