In Telangana, the State Election Commission (SEC) has finalized the scrutiny of the nomination process for the municipal elections. As soon as this process is completed, the picture of a large number of candidates contesting the election has become clear. Election officials have confirmed that a total of 19,608 candidates are in the fray so far from various wards and city organizations.
The Election Commission has made it clear that the withdrawal process is still going on and the candidates have the opportunity to withdraw their names till the 3rd of this month. According to the Election Commission, every nomination paper was examined in depth during scrutiny. During this period, many nominations having deficiencies in the documents were rejected, while some were given a chance to improve.
Dozens of contenders from every ward are in the fray
The Election Commission said that this figure of more than 19,000 shows that there is a lot of enthusiasm among the public for the local body elections and dozens of contenders are in the fray from every ward. This number is considered to be much higher than the previous elections, due to which the challenges before the political parties have also increased.
The State Election Commission has taken an important step to ensure transparency and accountability. As soon as the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ends on the 3rd, the Commission will publish the final list of candidates remaining in the electoral fray online on the official website. With this, voters will be able to easily get information about the candidates of their area.
Now all eyes are on the 3rd date. This day is important because on this day many rebels and weak candidates can withdraw their names, due to which the contest will become direct and interesting. Political pundits believe that after having such a large number of candidates, polarization of votes will be very interesting and it will not be easy for the parties to get the majority figure.
