Everyone is troubled by long ads on YouTube. You are watching a video of your choice and suddenly a 30 second long ad comes in between. It can neither be skipped nor does one feel like watching it. Many people used to install ad blockers to avoid this, but now YouTube does not allow ad blockers. In such a situation, only YouTube Premium is the only way to watch ad-free videos. Now a country has made a law to change this.
Vietnam enjoyed the users
Vietnam has enacted a law, under which unskippable ads longer than 5 seconds cannot be shown on any other online platform including YouTube. That means every platform will have to provide the option to skip ads longer than 5 seconds. This law will apply to video ads as well as moving images. Besides, you will also have to give the option to skip static ads. This law will come into effect from February 15.
Users became happy
Users are very happy with this decision of the Vietnam government. People from many other countries are also commenting on Reddit that they also want such a law in their country. Currently, users have very little control to watch videos for free and they have to fall victim to the arbitrariness of other platforms including YouTube.
Ads are necessary for YouTube
This law of Vietnam has brought relief for the users, but it also needs to be understood that advertising is necessary for YouTube. It is only because of ads that YouTube remains free to use till now and creators also get a chance to earn money from it. However, YouTube’s dependence on long and skinless ads is increasing, which not only hinders video viewing but also spoils the user experience.
