What was the problem before?
Till now, when someone was added to a group, he could see only the messages sent after that time. The earlier conversation remained hidden from him. Now how will the new feature work?
Under the new feature, group admin or other members can select recent messages and share them with new members. In this, there will be an option to choose messages from 25 to 100. This means that only limited and necessary information can be shared as per the need. This process is completely manual. As soon as a new person joins the group, the option to send message history to other members will be visible. This will ensure that only relevant information is shared.
Complete control will be in the hands of the administrator
If the group administrator wants, he can also turn off this setting. This means that every group will be able to decide according to its needs whether old messages should be shared or not. However, the administrator will always have the option to send the history if needed.
Full focus on privacy and security
WhatsApp has clarified that this feature will work only with end-to-end encryption. That means the shared chat will be limited to the group members only. No outsider will have access to these messages. Also, whenever message history is sent, a clear notification will be visible in the group. Timestamp and sender information will also be clearly visible, so that transparency is maintained.
