Vehicle to Vehicle Communication: The government is going to take a big step towards giving new heights to road safety in India. Under this, preparations are being made to implement Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication technology across the country. This technology will work even without mobile network or internet and will provide real-time safety alerts to drivers by directly connecting one vehicle to another. Its purpose is to prevent sudden mistakes and accidents on the road.
Drivers will be supported in bad weather and long journeys
This new technology will prove especially beneficial for those who travel long distances or drive in bad weather. In all such situations like dense fog, smog, heavy rain or low visibility at night, V2V system can prevent thousands of accidents by giving timely warning to the drivers. This will not only increase the safety of life and property but will also provide relief to the families.
What is Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) Technology?
V2V is a modern communication system, in which vehicles moving on the road share information among themselves. In this, important information like speed, direction, distance and sudden brakes of the vehicle is immediately transmitted to other vehicles. Due to this, the driver can get an idea of the possible danger in advance and he can take the right decision on time.
Will it work even without network, how?
To activate this technology, a small device will be installed in the vehicle, which may look like a SIM card. This device will continuously send and receive signals from nearby vehicles. Since this system is not dependent on mobile network or internet, it will work reliably even in remote and network-free areas.
How will V2V system reduce accidents in India?
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has already emphasized the benefits of this technology. According to him, V2V will significantly reduce high-speed rear-end collisions, collisions with vehicles parked on the roadside and multi-vehicle accidents caused by fog. This system will play an important role in preventing fatal accidents on the highway in winter.
Driver will get real-time alerts from every direction
The biggest feature of V2V is its 360-degree communication. The moving vehicle will continue to get information about vehicles coming from the front, rear and both sides. This system will give advance alerts for situations like maintaining a safe distance, sudden braking of a nearby vehicle, vehicles standing on the road and speeding traffic coming from behind. This feature will prove to be very effective on highways and congested cities.
Double safety shield will be made together with ADAS
V2V technology will be combined with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Many premium cars and SUVs already have camera and sensor based safety features. V2V will add an additional security layer on top of these systems, allowing vehicles to communicate intelligently not only with themselves but also with nearby vehicles.
When will this new technology be implemented?
According to the Road Transport Ministry, V2V technology is planned to be implemented in a phased manner by the end of 2026. Initially this system will be provided in new vehicles, after which it will gradually be included in other categories of vehicles also. The estimated cost of this project is said to be around Rs 5,000 crore, although the final decision regarding the price for the customers has not been taken yet.
Road safety will increase further with V2V
The government is not limited to V2V only. Many steps are also being taken to increase the safety of buses. Fire extinguishers, emergency hammer and driver fatigue detection systems will be installed in existing buses. These decisions are being taken keeping in mind the concerns related to past accidents and poor design.
