Written and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, ‘O Romeo’ is a romantic action thriller based on Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Apart from Shahid and Trupti, Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwari, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani and Farida Jalal have played important roles in ‘O Romeo’ and Vikrant Massey also has a cameo in the film. Shahid Kapoor’s last year’s Deva proved to be a flop at the box office. In such a situation, it was expected from ‘O Romeo’ that this film would take the actor’s career to new heights, however, the film disappointed the audience and it failed to draw them to the theatre. It received mixed response from the moviegoers as well as the critics. The box office numbers also show the same. However, this film, made under the direction of Vishal Bhardwaj, performed well at the box office in the first weekend. But after that, its collections started declining and in the second week its earnings almost collapsed.

‘O’Romeo’ has maintained a good pace, but it has not reached the standards of Shahid Kapoor’s career-defining films. ‘Padmavat’ is his highest Hindi net grosser with Rs 302.15 crore, while ‘Kabir Singh’ is at second place with Rs 278.8 crore. Whereas ‘Teri Baton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’ had collected Rs 85.16 crores and ‘R…Rajkumar’ had collected Rs 65.95 crores. ‘O Romeo’ has now almost left behind the lifetime collection of ‘Udta Punjab’ of Rs 60.33 crores. With this, it has joined Shahid Kapoor’s top five highest Hindi net grossers.
