Pakistan Out of T20 World Cup 2026: Pakistan cricket team has failed to reach the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup for the second consecutive time. Pakistan last played the semi-finals in 2022, after which it has been disappointed both times. Pakistan got a 5-run victory over Sri Lanka, but is out of the World Cup. With this victory, Pakistan has 3 points and New Zealand also has the same number of points. Know why Pakistan did not get entry in the semi-finals despite having equal points.
Due to which rule Pakistan was out
If any two teams have equal points in the points table of T20 World Cup, then the semi-finals are decided on the basis of net run-rate. Both Pakistan and New Zealand have three points each, but the Kiwi team’s NRR was +1.390. Whereas Pakistan remained far behind at -0.123.
If Pakistan had to go to the semi-finals, it was very important to take its net run rate above New Zealand. Therefore, when Pakistan scored 212 runs while batting first, then it had to restrict Sri Lanka to a score of 147 runs or less. If the Pakistani team had been able to do this, its net run rate would have been better than New Zealand.
Shanaka overpowered Sahibzada
Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman gave a historic and brilliant start to Pakistan. Both of them added 176 runs for the first wicket, but after their dismissal the entire team collapsed. Farhan scored 100 runs, while Fakhar scored 84 runs.
The Sri Lankan team, which came to chase the target of 213 runs, did not have a good start. But first Pawan Ratnayake played a strong inning of 58 runs and prevented Pakistan from going to the semi-finals. Captain Dasun Shanaka returned unbeaten after playing a stormy innings of 76 runs in 31 balls.
