The Union Cabinet for Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday (December 31, 2025) approved the construction of the 6-lane greenfield, access-controlled Nashik-Solapur-Akalkot corridor in Maharashtra. The total length of this corridor will be 374 kilometers, which will be developed on BOT (toll) mode at a cost of about Rs 19,142 crore.
This corridor will provide further connectivity to Kurnool by connecting important cities of Maharashtra like Nashik, Ahilyanagar and Solapur. This project is a very important step towards promoting the development of integrated transport infrastructure under the PM Gatishakti National Master Plan.
What is the purpose of construction of 6-lane greenfield corridor?
The main objective behind the construction of this access-controlled 6-lane greenfield corridor is to improve travel efficiency. Nashik-Akkalkot (Solapur) connectivity through this corridor will improve the logistics efficiency of freight transportation to and from NICDC’s major industrial nodes Kopparthi and Orvakal. Additionally, it also caters to the development of the Nashik-Talegaon Dighe section of the Pune-Nashik Expressway, which has been identified by NICDC as a proposed new expressway project by the Government of Maharashtra.
The corridor will lead to development in the districts of Maharashtra
This project will provide a high speed corridor, which has been designed for better safety and uninterrupted traffic. This will also reduce travel time, traffic jams and operating costs. With this, this project will significantly contribute to the overall economic development by strengthening the infrastructure in Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Dharashiv and Solapur districts.
People will get secure, fast and uninterrupted connectivity
This 6-lane access-controlled greenfield corridor will be developed with a closed tolling system, with an average speed of vehicles of 60 kmph and design speed of 100 kmph. As a result, the total travel time will be reduced to about 17 hours, which is a reduction of about 45 percent compared to the current 31 hours. This will provide safe, fast and uninterrupted connectivity to both passenger and cargo vehicles.
The project will increase employment opportunities
This corridor project, to be developed at a cost of Rs 19,142 crore, will generate direct employment of about 251.06 lakh man-days and indirect employment of 313.83 lakh man-days. Apart from this, more employment opportunities will be created due to increase in economic activities along the proposed corridor.
