PM Modi laid the foundation of North India’s first semiconductor unit, said- ‘This chip will be the new soul of development’

Today, a historic chapter was added to the world of industrial development and technology of Uttar Pradesh, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi, giving a new height to the resolve of Digital India, laid the virtual foundation stone of North India’s first semiconductor unit in Sector-28, Jewar. This unit, a joint venture between HCL and Foxconn, will be the first such facility in Uttar Pradesh where ‘display driver chips’ for mobiles, laptops and cars will be manufactured.

Addressing a huge gathering through virtual medium, PM Modi said that today 5G, 6G, electric vehicle and defence, the soul of every item is semiconductor. He said that now we will not have to look to others for chips. Having its own chip will increase India’s participation in global manufacturing.

PM said India is preparing more than 85,000 ‘industry ready’ professionals for semiconductor designing. The PM expressed satisfaction that more than half of the country’s mobile phones are being made in Uttar Pradesh today. UP, which was once known for crime and migration, has today become a state with expressways and defense corridors.

Yogi Adityanath expressed gratitude to PM Modi

On this occasion, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister and said that due to the vision of the Prime Minister and the cooperation of Annadata farmers, today this area is being established as an ‘Electronic Component Hub’. He said that more than 13% reforms have been implemented in Uttar Pradesh under ‘Ease of Doing Business’, the result of which is visible in the form of investment. The special feature of the project is that a joint venture between world giant Foxconn and India’s HCL is setting up this unit, which will create thousands of new employment opportunities in the area.

The CEO of Yamuna Authority and the district administration had made complete preparations regarding the security and traffic of this program. Students from five universities and around 5,000 people were present at the venue to witness this historic moment.
