Police in uniform or government protectors? High-voltage drama of BRS councilor in Jangaon, police’s ‘kidnapping theory’ fails

Today (February 16) in Telangana, during the election of municipal body presidents, a picture emerged amid the dignity of democracy and the tussle of power, which has raised serious questions on the impartiality of the police administration. At around 10:15 am on Monday, a huge uproar broke out outside the Jangaon Municipality office when newly elected BRS councilor Hafeez Fatima was stopped by the police from going inside.

The police argued that they had received a complaint about Fatima being ‘kidnapped’, whereas the councilor herself was shouting that she was safe and had come to vote of her own free will. The drama reached its peak in the election arena of Jangaon when the police personnel tried to forcibly take Hafeez Fatima into their custody.

What is the claim of the police?
The police claimed that they had a complaint that the councilor had been kidnapped and that they had come to ‘save’ him, but Hafeez Fatima fearlessly confronted the police. She said, “I am with the BRS party, no one has kidnapped me. I have come here to vote for my party, why am I being stopped?” After this, she broke the police cordon and entered the office.

Police accused of working like Congress workers
BRS leaders alleged that the police were working like Congress ‘workers’ in ‘khaki uniform’. Not only Jangaon, huge violence was also seen regarding Thorur Municipality elections. Around 9:00 am, Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy and his supporters stopped the bus of BRS councilors at Pembarti bypass in Jangaon district. When former minister Erraballi Rao and his supporters protested against this, there was a fierce scuffle and scuffle between the two sides.

The real reason behind the drama is ‘number game’
The dispute escalated so much that traffic on the national highway was disrupted for hours. Finally, after the intervention of heavy police force, the bus was sent to Thorur. The real reason behind this whole drama is the ‘numbers game’. Recent election results have shown hung results (BRS 13, Congress 12, Independent 5) in Jangaon Municipality. Here, to grab the chair of the President, the value of each vote is being estimated in crores. This is why tactics like ‘camp politics’ and kidnapping are being adopted to stop opposition councillors.
