Assam Congress has suffered a big setback just before the elections. Nagaon Lok Sabha MP and senior leader Pradyot Bordoloi resigned from all his posts and primary membership from Congress yesterday. According to sources, today i.e. on Wednesday at around 11 am, he can join BJP in the presence of senior Assam BJP leader and party president Dilip Saikia.
Left Congress citing insult and dissatisfaction
Pradyot Bordoloi sent his resignation letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. In this one-line letter, he wrote, ‘With extreme sadness, today I am resigning from all posts, privileges and primary membership of the Indian National Congress.’ He has cited ‘insult’ and dissatisfaction in the party.
Sources reveal that today his son Prateek Bordoloi may also resign from Congress. Prateek Bordoloi was nominated from Margherita seat in the list of Congress candidates for the Assam Assembly elections. If both father and son join BJP, then the party can give them two big seats. According to sources, Pradyot Bordoloi is likely to get ticket from Dispur assembly seat. His son Prateek can be made a candidate from Margherita seat.
BJP has already invited Bordoloi
Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma have already extended an open invitation to Pradyot Bordoloi. Himanta Sarma had said that like Bhupen Bora, Bordoloi will also be welcomed and will be given a chance to contest the elections.
Pradyot Bordoloi was active in Congress for a long time. He has been a former minister and was elected Lok Sabha MP twice. His departure is being considered a big loss for the Assam Congress, especially when the assembly elections are going to be held in April 2026. This incident is creating a stir in the politics of Assam. BJP is calling this a sign of the breakup of Congress.
