BJP has prepared a comprehensive strategy for the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal. The entire focus of the party is on strengthening the organization up to the booth level as well as stopping fake voting and eliminating the fear of electoral violence from the minds of voters and workers.
According to sources, BJP believes that the atmosphere of violence and fear during elections in West Bengal often keeps voters away from voting. Keeping this in view, the party has stressed on ensuring tight security arrangements during the election process, so that voters can exercise their franchise without any fear. Along with this, BJP has also given many suggestions to the Election Commission to stop fake voting.
‘Face scanning should be arranged’
BJP has advised that arrangements should be made for face scanning of voters at all polling stations or at least photographs of each voter should be taken. BJP believes that with such a system, fake voting can be effectively controlled and the election process will become more transparent. Along with this, according to BJP sources, BJP has advised the Election Commission to conduct elections in West Bengal in at least phases so that election violence can be stopped by controlling the unruly elements.
Last time elections were held in 8 phases
The last assembly elections were held in eight phases in which many incidents of violence were reported during and after the elections. BJP leaders believe that even though the party’s performance in the last Lok Sabha elections may have been poor in terms of seats, the vote percentage did not decrease. BJP’s vote percentage remained around 38-39 percent. Talking about the results of 2024 Lok Sabha elections, there are about 200 assemblies in which the party got around 35 percent votes. Therefore the party is confident that it has the support of the public.
Heavy deployment of security forces in Bengal
To strengthen the security system, on the orders of the Election Commission, the Central Government has deployed 480 battalions of Central Security Forces in West Bengal from March 1, which will reach their respective places by March 10. According to sources, additional security forces can also be deployed if required. Even during the last Lok Sabha elections, deployment of central forces was continued for several months after voting to prevent election violence.
According to sources, the Election Commissioner may visit West Bengal next week, where he will review the election preparations and security arrangements. During this visit, necessary steps to ensure fair and peaceful elections in the state are also likely to be discussed.
